Jonathan McCoy Gamse (Mac) is Chief Executive Officer of Meritas LLC, where he was a founding employee and also served as Senior Vice President of International Operations.  Mr. Gamse has extensive management, operations, strategy and development experience in the education industry.  Prior to joining Meritas as CEO, Mr. Gamse was a Principal at Sterling Partners, where he worked with Meritas and other education-related Sterling portfolio investments.  At Sterling, Mr. Gamse was instrumental in developing and implementing high-impact strategies that resulted in significant growth across his portfolio companies.

Prior to Sterling and Meritas, Mr. Gamse was the Chief Operating Officer of Schülerhilfe GmbH, a German K-12 tutoring company and a subsidiary of Educate, Inc.  With a network of nearly 1,000 learning centers across Germany and Austria, Schülerhilfe is one of the largest franchisors and most recognized education brands in these countries.  During his tenure at Schülerhilfe, Mr. Gamse was a central force in reinvigorating this business, which had significant market penetration yet had become stagnant.  Mr. Gamse's work contributed significantly to the re-emergence of Schülerhilfe and the creation of consistent double digit EBITDA growth. 

Mr. Gamse also served as Director of Strategic Planning for Educate, Inc.  Educate includes the operations of Sylvan Learning franchises, Schülerhilfe, Ivy West, and Catapult Traditional Learning business units.  Sylvan Learning, founded in 1979, is North America's leading provider of personalized tutoring programs to students in grades pre-K-12 in every academic subject and test preparation.  At Educate, Mr. Gamse helped plan and manage Sylvan's European expansion.  He was also a founding employee and Director of Product Development for Educate's online business, eSylvan.  Here, he developed the business plan and managed the development and growth of this premiere online tutoring service. 

Prior to Educate, Mr. Gamse was Director of Development at Logicat, Inc., a leading provider of online and CD testing and training solutions.  In this role, Mr. Gamse designed and launched a CPA exam review course that included live classes, books, videos, and software.  With over 15 years of domestic and international experience in education and operations, Mr. Gamse is well-positioned to sustain and increase Meritas' global leadership position. 

Mr. Gamse received an MBA from The Wharton School and a BA in English from Haverford College.
